Analysis of needs, barriers and opportunities for employment or self-employment of disabled people in territories of Ben Arous, Gafsa and Gabes, Tunisia

Handicap International (Humanity & Inclusion) in collaboration with the National Agency for Employment and Self-Employment (ANETI), and the Federation of Tunisian Associations Working in the Field of Handicap (FATH) has implemented a project entitled “Access to the employment of disabled people in Tunisia”.
The main objective of the project was to facilitate the access of disability people to livelihoods and sufficient income to live in dignity, contribute to the improvement of their living conditions and the reduction of inequalities in Tunisia through the employment and entrepreneurship.
Therefore, NSCE was commissioned to conduct an “Analysis of needs, barriers and opportunities for employment or self-employment of disabled people in territories of Ben Arous, Gafsa and Gabes, Tunisia”.
The objectives of the analysis are:
- To identify barriers and opportunities for disabled people in the job market or in the self-employment
- Analyse needs, barriers for disabled people to be integrated in the labour market
- Propose recommendations
The primary data collection through field visits aimed to
- bring new insights into the needs of job seekers and opportunities
- contribute to a better consolidation and analysis of data for capturing the key tasks expected from the study

- Situation Analysis (literature review): assessment of the employment sector in general and the professional integration situation of the disabled people in particular to identify information gaps t
- Secondary data review of economic data, legal framework, projects reports, national statistics of the targeted regions;
- Primary data review: qualitative and participatory research tools such as individual and group interviews, field observations (notably with disabled women and young people seeking employment)
- Dissemination workshop for the validation of results
- Reporting
