Training and Capacity Building Strengthening for Gender Mainstreaming of EPADP Staff and Water Users Associations

Description

The National Drainage Programme (NDP) III is a key part of the Egyptian government’s Water Resources Development Strategy that aims to optimize the efficiency of water resource use as well as improve the efficiency of the drainage systems. NDP III is funded by ISDB, AfDB, KfW, EU and the Government of Egypt.

The NDP III aims to optimize the benefits of irrigation by draining excess irrigation water from agricultural land in order to reduce water logging and consequent soil salinity.

There is a strong focus on capacity development to promote gender equality in agricultural field to ensure understanding of what gender mainstreaming and the promotion of gender equality entails, task managers will increasingly own the promotion of gender equality. Continuous capacity building of staff and awareness of local communities at all levels is considered as an important catalyst for the successful implementation of the Gender Strategy.

EPADP – NDP III has commissioned North South Consultants Exchange Group, to implement “Training and Capacity Strengthening in Gender Mainstreaming of EPADP Staff and Water/Collector Users Associations”.

Overall objective:

  • To raise the awareness and increase the capacity of EPADP staff and WUAs/CUAS towards an increasing involvement of women in drainage projects.

Specific objective:

  • To propose process/policy for gender mainstreaming in drainage projects.
  • To train/build the capacity of EPADP staff in relation to gender mainstreaming in drainage projects.

The target beneficiaries: EPADP Staff and WUAs/CUAs

Services

The assignment is divided into four phases notably: identification of process and policies for gender mainstreaming, training for EPADP staff on gender mainstreaming aspects; ToT for EPADP staff and awareness workshops for EPADP and CUAs on gender mainstreaming aspects.

To obtain a well-rounded insight into the issues at hand and to assess the capacity building needs of the stakeholders targeted for the gender strategy, the methodology adopted includes a combination of:

  • Preparation of process policies for gender mainstreaming
  • Gender sensitization training for EPADP staff and CUAs members
  • Training of Trainers
  • Gender mainstreaming awareness workshops
