Analysis of Employment Constraints and Opportunities for Women in Egypt and the Role Played by TVET
Description
The objective of the assignment is to assess the opportunities and obstacles that face women employment in both the tourism and the Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) sectors. The ETF assigned NSCE to conduct project study in Egypt. This included the responsibility to identify sources of information, sampling and implementing the research. The research methodology was developed by ETF but was revised, discussed and adopted to the local context in Egypt by NSCE. The research focuses on the supply and demand sides in the labor market. Taking the private sectors companies as the supply side while the women looking for wok presented the demand side.

Approach
- Manage the implementation of the field research including data collection, analysis, and elaboration of the results and final reporting;
- Contribute to the elaboration of a country and cross-country reports on women’s employment and the role played by vocational education.
Research Methods
The following research methods to be used during the evaluation:
- Literature review
- Semi structured in depth interviews
- Focus group discussions
- Case studies
The sample contained 100 companies from the private sectors and interviews through using structured questionnaire were conducted with Human Resources Managers and companies owners. Following the data collection the questionnaires passed by the quality control phase before coding and entering the results which were then analyzed for the final report. The complexity of implementing the survey was during the sampling process where NSCE has managed to overcome the limited resources and information through capitalizing on different sources of information and integrating an accurate database of working companies in both sectors in a limited time.
Specific activities
- Literature review on ICT and tourism sectors, women and employment in Egypt focusing in these sectors, and vocational education role in this regard
- Carry out, analyzes data and elaborate on the following Field Survey results:
- A quantitative survey with employers within two selected sectors
- A qualitative survey (FGDs) with 4 groups of women 15-29 years old in urban and rural areas as follows: TVET schools/universities students, Employed in tourism and ICT companies, unemployed, inactive women.
- Provide input to the development of country and cross country reports by:
- Program literature and documents
- Developing and tailoring research tools
- Training the National Research Team on how to conduct the fieldwork
- Supervision of the fieldwork
- Data collection for case studies
- Analysis
- Report writing and formulation of recommendations
