“Pro Poor Urban Governance”: Promotion for Urban NGOs Project
Description
LIFE is a UNDP global programme that has focused on local governance and urban environmental issues since 1992, supporting community-based and local initiatives to realize immediate improvements to the lives of the urban poor and to influence policy.
Within the framework of Urban NGOs Project, NSCE tailored and developed specific training courses for the target organization’s local staff to introduce participatory planning renewal with low-income groups as an administrative outline in a slum area in Cairo. The project that was supported the UNDP LIFE program (Local Initiative Facility of Urban Environment) systematically prepared and applied the experience obtained with the establishment of local-local dialogue.
Services
NSCE trained community volunteers in urban upgrading areas of Gezirat El Sheir to conduct socio-economic survey and collect data on issues related to wastewater, garbage and environmental hazards.
NSCE developed and conducted training courses to improve measures and concepts in the field of self-help mobilization, coordination, dialogue procedures, and women’s participation.
In addition, NSCE provided support to strengthen the organizational development of local NGOs, mobilized neighbourhood volunteers and trained them in data collection, as well as familiarized the community with participatory approaches.
