Study on Situation Analysis of Community Development Associations

“Empowering People with Disabilities (PWDs) through Community Development Associations” is a project inaugurated by Ministry of Social Solidarity (MoSS) and JICA in upper Egypt to promote integration of the PWD into the community by changing attitudes of people favorably towards PWDs and to provide them with the services they need.

The researchers used focus group discussions, individual interviews and in-depth interviews with four (4) Community Development associations in Beni Suef to assess the current capacity and the potential ability to manage the project and achieve sustainability, and revised secondary data resources to analyze the community profile with special focus on PWDs. Since the limited resources for this service are located in big cities in upper Egypt, most of PWDs living in rural areas have a limited access to such services and they have limited chance to meet their needs. The project started by community analysis followed by programs such as transferring knowledge and techniques on disability, improving environment and so on.
