Objectives of the project were:
- To conduct a Gender Sensitive Value Chain Analysis on MAPs in Fayoum and provide entry points for intervention to empower the actors of the value chain including women and men farmers, youth, communities and Producers’ Organizations.
- To determine the capacity development needs for the Producers’ Organizations and actors of the VC in Egypt and map out relevant capacity development documentation that addresses existing gaps.
To determine the capacity needs for women empowerment to improve their value chain participation: (agricultural trainings; lead positions in trainings, extension agencies and self-help groups; make agreements and sign production contracts with other chain actors; or access to credit)
Project Description
Result # 1: Mapping of the Value Chain of MAPs.
- Comprehensive Desk Review and Producers’ Organizations and selected products Case study were conducted
- Development of Research tools
- Qualitative Interviews were conducted
- PESTLE / SWOT was conducted
- Value Chain Map (with identified actors and linkages) was developed with Key Issues and Constraints
Result # 2: Gender Analysis and Assessment of Producers Organizations and all actors of the VC were conducted, including
- Literature Review
- Development of Research tools
- Qualitative Interviews:
- In-depth Interviews
- Focus Group Discussions
- Data Analysis
- Development of a Capacity Building Plan
Result # 3: Integration of Outcomes and Report Preparation
Project Outputs were as follows:
- Mapping of the VC of MAPs
- Gender Analysis and Assessment of the Producers’ Organizations and all actors of the value chain and Recommendations on the Way Forward
- Integration of Outcomes in a “Final Report”
