Description

The Government of Egypt, with the support of the World Bank, and the Government of Japan, has launched a large-scale rural sanitation program entitled the Integrated Sanitation & Sewerage Infrastructure Project (ISSIP). ISSIP aimed at developing the rural sanitation sector in towns and villages in three Northern Governorates in the Delta region: Gharbiya, Kafr- el-Sheikh and Beheira. The project provided improved wastewater collection and treatment systems in targeted villages to help reducing the pollution in the surrounding water canals and drains.

Objective

The objectives of the baseline were:

  • To collect data on the communities’ present satisfaction levels of sanitation services
  • To provide information which could be used to monitor the project in the course of implementation.
