Cultural Preservation and Economic Development in Siwa Oases

Description

The aim of the project was to support handicraft production in the oasis of Siwa by developing traditional economic activities to increase income of population, training 20 men and women for the local production of silver and activating manufacturing marketing channels. This project is implemented by the Cooperazione Internazionale Sud-Sud (CISS), and Italian NGO, supported by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation in the framework of the the Italian – Egyptian Debt for Development Swap Program.

NSCE in cooperation with the Italian NGO CISS agreed to cooperate in the implementation of a pilot project in Siwa oasis. The goal of the project was to contribute to the cultural preservation efforts in the oasis of Siwa and to contribute to the development of cultural and eco ourism in the oasis through the development of culturally based economic activities targeted to low-income groups and more specifically to youth and women.

Services

In consultation with the Siwa house, the local partner, it was decided to support the revival of Siwa local jewellery production with supply of technical and managerial training and training material to 8 men and women, which eventually started to produce traditional Siwan Silverware.
