Land Improvement Project (LIP) Uzbekistan

Against land degradation, for sustainable land use.

Description

At present, Uzbekistan is implementing a number of international projects in the field of agriculture. These projects include a project by the Asian Development Bank and the Global Environment Facility (GEF) for “Land Improvement in Bukhara, Navoi and Kashkadarya Regions.”

The project will cover 162,300 hectares of land in nine districts of the abovementioned Regions in order to restore the normal ecological functioning of these lands.

The project aims to support efforts to halt land degradation and improve the ameliorative condition of land, ensure sustainable development of agriculture on irrigated lands, and improve effective use of water and land resources. ADB, GEF, and beneficiaries relate the outcome of the Project with:

  • strengthening the policy of implementing sustainable development principles;
  • effective mobilization of all agencies responsible for management of land resources;
  • establish a clear interaction between government agencies and land users;
  • replication of best practices in joint sustainable management of land resources;
  • restoration of the engineering infrastructure for water and land resources,
  • capacity building and effective project management.

Services

  • Coordinate and manage the provision of consultants, international and national.
  • Develop, implement and monitor project management activities in coordination with the Client and the local partner and in line with ADB’s guidelines and instructions.
  • Develop, implement and monitor a financial system as part of project management procedures within the framework of ADB’s guidelines and instructions.
  • Provide regular backstopping support to the project team.
  • Assure the quality and timely submission of project reports and correspondences with the Client.
