Strengthening capacity of local NGOs to support SMEs sector development in Algeria

Self-employment & Entrepreneurship.

Description

The main objective of this project is to reduce poverty in Algeria, particularly in Wilaya region, through the creation of employment and economic prosperity through local associations. It entailed to respond to the needs of the most deprived groups whose employment chances are very minimal, and want to start self-employment or create micro-enterprises.

The specific objectives of this project were to increase the direct participation of the vulnerable group in the creation and management of the small enterprises by identifying opportunities of sub-contracting between small and micro enterprises in the disadvantaged areas of the Wilaya region and strengthen the association of young entrepreneurs at central and provincial level to deliver training, business counseling, and financial services.

The target group included approximately 4,350 young people and women and indirectly about 20.000 family members living in poor areas, and hundreds of young entrepreneurs.

The expected results were as follows:

  • Regular incomes for poor families through the integration of their micro-enterprises in the local and regional market.
  • Concrete opportunities of sub-contracting between small and micro-enterprises.
  • Micro-enterprises using a line of micro-credits adapted to their needs.
  • Competitive and sustainable associative structures of young entrepreneurs.
  • Recognition of young and women living in poor areas as important components to the development of the local economy
